RDC IX holds 137th Meeting in Siayan, ZDN
In an effort to bring the Regional Development Council (RDC) IX closer to the people in Zamboanga Peninsula, the RDC IX convened its 137th meeting on September 1, 2011 in Siayan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn T. Uy, RDC IX Chair, together with the Council members and about 100 guests and resource persons deliberated on various development issues and concerns in one of the significant municipalities of the region.
To address various policy concerns relevant to the development of the region, the Council endorsed a total of 14 resolutions which covered issues in infrastructure, agri-industrial, and social sectors. Among the resolutions passed by the RDC IX are: Recommending December 1-March 1 as closed fishing season for sardines; Proposing two priority bridges for the UK-assisted National Roads Bridge Replacement Project; and continued suspension of the implementation of Fishery Administrative Order No. 233. The Council also enjoined the LGUs to support the Iron-fortified Rice (I-Rice) Program and the implementation of the World Health Organization-Child Growth Standards for monitoring the nutrition of 0-5 year-old children.
Another notable resolution passed by the Council is the adoption of 10 identified watersheds in the region by the RDC IX in support to the National Greening Program of the government. Copies of the resolutions can be downloaded at www.neda9.net.
The meeting was concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement on sisterhood and twinning agreement between Dipolog City and Siayan. “The sisterhood agreement signified that Siayan welcomes the partnership for the development of the municipality”, Mayor Uy disclosed. The Council members also expressed their gratitude to Siayan Mayor Flora L. Villarosa and the people of Siayan for extending their support to the RDC IX during the conduct of its meeting. (Michel R.
